ELC Spring 2014 events: St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, 17 March 2014

On Monday, March 17, 2014, the ELC held an event to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day—a holiday with roots in Ireland, but celebrated now in several countries around the world (perhaps most notably in the United States).

The host of the event, ELC Teaching Fellow Kerry Pusey, shared his experiences of celebrating the holiday over the years and discussed some of the modern traditions related to St. Patrick’s Day today. Attendees also watched a video that told a about the history of the holiday which served as an interesting counterpoint to the contemporary festivities commonly associated with the Irish celebration.

In addition to learning a bit about the history and current traditions related to St. Patrick’s day, attendees also enjoyed some delicious food and drinks, learned about Irish limericks (a type of poetry), and listened to the Irish American band Flogging Molly to liven up the festive spirit.
