On Friday May, 9th the ELC hosted a Korean Fan Painting activity. Many students attended said that it was their first time taking a painting class or even more specifically painting on fans. Students were instructed completely in English by ELC Teaching Fellow Marie Webb who gave techniques and tips on how to successfully paint their fans. Marie lived in Korea for 1 year where she took many traditional Korean painting classes. She encouraged the students to get to know one another and improve their painting skills. Students who attended chose from 2 patterns, and several of the students said that the activity was perfect timing because they were able to give their fans to their mothers to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Students did a wonderful job with their designs and when they were finished they wrote their names in Korean Hangul, the Korean alphabet, and also in Chinese characters in a stamp design. Hopefully more students from UM will sign up for the ELC activities in the future and enjoy a fun and relaxing afternoon with their peers.
