Dr. Antony Kunnan, language assessment expert, gave a talk on the ethics, standards, and practices of conducting second language assessment on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. Sponsored by the ELC, the event also drew interest from FED English Education students. During the lecture, Dr. Kunnan discussed the complexities involved in assessment planning, design, operation, use, and research, with each of these five stages being recursive and interlocking. Dr. Kunnan also provided insights into the future of large-scale language assessment by discussing the inevitability but also the problems and limitations of automated scoring.
